action

On her 43rd birthday, Bridget Jones is woken up in the morning by her mother and informed that her biological clock is ticking. Meanwhile, after her relationship with Mark Darcy has ended, she is completely focused on her career as a television producer. She enjoys her life as a single and enjoys spending her free time with friends.

At Daniel Cleaver's funeral, Bridget's former affair, she meets Mark and his new wife. At a later festival visit, the American Jack Qwant, a successful dating platform founder and multiple millionaire, enters her life and suddenly turns it upside down. Drunk she stumbles into his tent and spends a night of love with him, which at first seems very uncomfortable to her.

The following week, Bridget meets her former fiancé Mark again on the occasion of the christening of their godchild. She learns of his plans for a divorce and they both realize that they still feel a lot for the other, which is why they sleep together. When he tells about his future travel plans a short time later, Bridget realizes that the previous failure of their relationship was due to the fact that Mark always paid more attention to his work than to their mutual relationship. Therefore, before Mark wakes up the next morning, she leaves the room with a message on her pillow, which makes it clear to Mark that for this reason a new relationship and the potential failure are too painful for Bridget.

When a pregnancy test shows a positive result, Bridget asks which of the two men is the father. An abortion is out of the question for her as it could be her last chance of pregnancy due to her age. Both Mark and Jack are so enthusiastic about the news that Bridget initially hides the fact that the child could have come from the other. When she finally tells it, a rivalry breaks out between the men, but Jack is much more romantic and is always by Bridget's side, both in the antenatal classes and in the hospital; However, because of his job, Mark is never on time. When Jack explains to him that he and Bridget would be a better match, and also claims to know exactly who the father of the child is, Mark gives himself up, desperate and disappointed, defeated.

But Bridget slowly realizes that she knows exactly which of the two she would like to see as a father, whereupon the relationship with Jack breaks up. In one last attempt to win Mark back, however, she watches him meet his ex-wife. Beaten in the head, she tries to make ends meet on her own, but she does not succeed well. Not only does she lose contact with both men, she also receives little support from her friends and loses her job. However, Mark is still very attached to Bridget. When she started to go into labor , he happened to be with her, and Jack met them on the way to the hospital. Bridget becomes the mother of a healthy boy. The film ends with Bridget and Mark getting married. Mark is the child's father. In the last scene, the viewer learns through a newspaper headline that Daniel Cleaver was found alive in the jungle a year after his plane crash.

A third installment in the Bridget Jones film series was confirmed by Universal Pictures in August 2011 . Even then it became clear that the third part should not, like its two predecessors, be based directly on novels by the author Helen Fielding , but on columns that she published in the British daily newspaper The Independent in 2005. Several directors were in discussion for the film, for example Paul Feig and Peter Cattaneo one after the other . In June 2015, however, Sharon Maguire , who had already directed the first part of the film series, was confirmed again as director.

The official filming ran from October 2, 2015 to November 27, 2015. The film was shot in London (for example in Borough Market ), Windsor and Oxfordshire . However, further recordings were made in July 2015 in Croke Park  in Dublin at a concert by Ed Sheeran , which is shown at the beginning of the film. Ed Sheeran himself also has a cameo .
