The Sugar Industry Association (VdZ) , based in Bonn and with an office in Berlin, is the union of sugar-producing companies in Germany.

history

As the oldest industrial association in Germany, it was founded under the name of the Association for the Beet Sugar Industry in the German Customs Union of 85 beet sugar factories on September 1, 1850 in Magdeburg . On April 5, 1852, the sugar refineries for cane sugar founded an association of refiners in the Zollverein and in Hanover , whose first chairman was Eduard Joest . The organization of the beet sugar industry was renamed the Association for the Beet Sugar Industry of the German Reich in 1873 and later merged with the former Association of Refiners to form today's Association of the Sugar Industry , which was temporarily based in Hanover . In 2018 the VdZ moved from Bonn to Berlin.

profile

In addition to its function as an employers' association, the Sugar Industry Association safeguards the interests of the industry in particular in feed law, food law and nutrition, tax law, environmental and safety technology and the promotion of research on the cultivation and processing of sugar beet.
