Victoria Wood
Victoria Wood CBE (born May 19, 1953 in Prestwich , † April 20, 2016 in London ) was a British screenwriter , comedian , actress , composer and singer .
Life
Victoria Woods career began in 1974 at the age of 20 when she won the talent show New Faces . In the same year, she completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in acting from the University of Birmingham . In the 1980s she was best known in Great Britain through the television series Victoria Wood as Seen on TV . There she played alongside Julie Walters and Patricia Routledge . In the course of her career, she produced several television films and comedy series , especially for the BBC , such as the sitcom Dinnerladies , in which she also played. Wood has received numerous awards including four British Academy Television Awards and six British Comedy Awards . In 1997 Victoria Wood was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire , and in 2008 was elevated to the "Commander" level of this order.
Wood died in April 2016 at the age of 62 from complications from cancer.
