David James Bamber (born September 19, 1954 in Walkden , Lancashire , England ) is a British film and theater actor .

life and career

David Bamber is the youngest of four children of a miner and a nurse, and grew up in Manchester , where he gained his first acting experience in youth theater. At first, Bamber didn't want to become an actor at all, and instead focused on training actors. But he changed his mind, graduated from Bristol University and received a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art . Although Bamber was present in numerous plays of Shakespeare at the National Theater , he was still not a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company .

Bamber has also been in front of the camera since 1982, his debut was the comedy film Privates on Parade . Although Bamber is mostly better known in England than in the rest of Europe, he has also appeared in several well-known Hollywood films in recent years. He stood in front of the camera in The Bourne Identity in 2002 , and in the same year for Gangs of New York . In 2005 Bamber's international breakthrough came when he played the historical figure Marcus Tullius Cicero in the television series Rome . Bamber took on the role of Adolf Hitler in Bryan Singer's film about the failed Hitler assassination attempt, Operation Walküre - Das Stauffenberg assassination from 2008 .

David Bamber has been married to British actress Julia Swift since 1982 . The couple have two children together.
