Ian McNeice (born October 2, 1950 in Basingstoke , Hampshire ) is a British actor .

Life

He attended Taunton School in Somerset and then played for two years at the Salisbury Playhouse. He then played on various British and international stages, including Broadway . He became known to a wide audience through supporting roles in films such as Das Russland-Haus (1990), The Englishman Who Climbed A Hill And Comed Down From A Mountain (1995) and Ace Ventura - Now It Gets Wild (1995). He later played in From Hell (2001) and Bridget Jones - At the edge of madness (2004).

In the two television film trilogies Dune - Der Wüstenplanet (2000) and Children of Dune (2003) McNeice played the diabolical Baron Wladimir Harkonnen. In the television series Hornblower and Rome he was seen in prominent supporting roles.

McNeice's three children, Travers, Angus and Maisie, live in the Botswana bush with their mother and stepfather, who both work as lion researchers .
