action

Ace Ventura experiences a nervous breakdown and retires to a monastery in Tibet . Missionary Fulton Greenwall, who works in the African country of Nibia , asks Ventura to find the sacred bat Shikaka , over which the Wachati and Wachootoo tribes are fighting.

Ventura discovers that Shikaka was stolen by the diplomat Vincent Cadby, who hoped the warring tribes would destroy each other in a tribal war . Cadby wanted to take over the land of the " natives " because there are stocks of economically usable guano .

Ventura tries to arrest Cadby, but the local cop is conspiring with Cadby. Ventura escapes, calls on wildlife for help, and frees Shikaka . He brings the sacred bat back in time to a tribal war between Wachati and Wachootoo to prevent.

The princess of one of the tribes marries a man from the other tribe. After the wedding, it turns out that she is no longer a virgin . Ventura is hunted as the culprit by members of both tribes.

Reviews

James Berardinelli wrote on ReelViews that he did not like the first film, but that it was better than the "hopelessly foolish" sequel. The film contains "idiotic" jokes and unsuccessful gags. Berardinelli scoffed that the phrase "answering the call of nature" generally meant toilet activities - which was the "appropriate" place to dispose of this film.

“Rough joke with a crocodile rodeo and ape lice, even crazier than Part 1 (1994). Conclusion: tasteless, silly, but hilariously. "

“The film lives exclusively from the aggressive, disrespectful comedy of its main actor and can therefore be entertaining. In the end, the entertainment value flattens in favor of the logically brought to an end crime story. "

Awards

Jim Carrey won the MTV Movie Award in two categories in 1996 . He and Sophie Okonedo were nominated for the MTV Movie Award in the Best Kiss category. Jim Carrey and Best Picture won the 1996 Kids' Choice Award . Jim Carrey was nominated for an American Comedy Award in 1996. Robert Folk won the 1996 Film and Television Music Award from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers .

The film was nominated in 1996 for the Golden Raspberry in the worst remake or sequel category.

Comparison of the German version and the original version

In the German version, the scene in which Ace pushes the baby out of a pregnant woman's belly was missing. It flies (still hanging on the umbilical cord) into the arms of a "native". In the German version you only saw the "native" laughing. This scene did not exist in any German version (cinema, TV, VHS or DVD) until 2013. In that year, the film was released on Blu-ray in its entirety.

On February 24, 2011, the unabridged version was shown in German on Sky Comedy.
