Donald E. Thorin

Donald Eugene Thorin (born October 12, 1934 in Omaha , Nebraska , † February 9, 2016 in Tucson , Arizona ) was an American cinematographer .

Life

Thorin made contact with the film industry through an uncle in the 1950s and learned his trade from scratch. He initially worked as a still photographer , then as an advertising designer and film inserter for 20th Century Fox .

After Thorin took over the camera work in Minnie and Moskowitz for the first time, he worked for about ten years as a camera assistant in productions such as Der Stadtneurotiker , This Land is My Country and Coming Home - You Are Coming Home . Thorin assisted the American cameraman Haskell Wexler on the last two films mentioned . In 1981 Thorin was responsible for the camera of a feature film for the first time when he worked on camera for The Loner . Until his last camera work in Head of State in 2003, films such as In Search of the Golden Child and Ace Ventura - Now it's getting wild should follow.

Cinematographers Donald E. Thorin Jr. and Jeffrey Thorin are Thorin's sons.
