action

Frank Leone was convicted of a minor crime . However, 6 months before his release, he is transferred to a maximum security prison under the direction of Director Drumgoole. Frank once made headlines when he was the first to break out of another prison under Drumgoole's direction, as Drumgoole refused to grant his request to visit his foster father one last time before his death. Drumgoole was transferred to a sentence for these events. He therefore blames him for the failure of his career.

After being transferred to the new prison, Leone notices that the inmates are being treated sadistically and brutally by some of the guards. In addition, Drumgoole tries by all means to provoke Frank to commit a crime and thus to extend his prison sentence in revenge for what happened. Despite unfair treatment by Drumgoole, Frank does not allow himself to be carried away at first in view of his imminent dismissal. Even when Drumgoole has Frank's friend there killed by a brutal prison inmate, he barely retains his temper. Only when Drumgoole allegedly hires a supposedly soon-to-be-released prisoner to rape Frank's girlfriend Melissa and makes sure that he finds out, Frank loses his temper and tries to break out.

The breakout fails, but Frank, who saw through the criminal game of Drumgoole during this event, succeeds in preventing his arrest and bringing Drumgoole under his control, whereupon he ties him to an electric chair and prepares him to be used to drumgoole kill. Meanwhile, he threatens to kill him for his actions. Fearing his threat , Drumgoole confesses to the guards who appear later, whose arrival Frank expected, that all of his accusations are true when Frank asks him to confess in front of their presence. Frank pushes the lever to release the electric chair anyway. Nevertheless, nothing happens to Drumgoole, whereupon those present notice that Frank had removed a fuse from the system while the electric chair was being made available, so that the electric chair would not work if it was activated. Despite everything, Drumgoole was never in mortal danger the whole time, not even during his confession.

His confession is therefore considered legal by those present . Therefore, Drumgoole is arrested and charged accordingly. Frank, on the other hand, is rehabilitated and released from prison after his sentence has expired. His girlfriend is waiting for him outside the detention center to pick him up.

criticism

Desson Howe criticized the script in the Washington Post . He compared the film to a cartoon .

“Technically experienced prison film, which, with its rough black and white drawings and American myths blown up in a way that is suitable for the cinema, only serves as a vehicle for star actor Sylvester Stallone. Donald Sutherland, seen here as the villain, is nevertheless played on the wall in every scene; Despite the two-and-a-half-minute cut by the FSK, it is still very violent. "

“Action fans appreciate the dark film, despite the many prison clichés, for its gripping, direct manner. There is no big talk here, there is something in the face, done. Director John Flynn ("Miami Affairs"), who died in 2007, shot his psycho-duel with real prisoners in Rahway State Prison near New York. Conclusion: Crazy prison action in the Sly style of the 1980s. "
