action
Phyllis Nefler, who is living in divorce, finally wants to finish something she started for once in her life, which is why she intends not to fail as the group leader of her daughter Hannah's scout group. Originally she just wanted to be close to her daughter, but since her husband Freddy doubts her, she feels challenged to become a real group of Wilderness Girls with all the other daughters of writers, actors, filmmakers and cosmetic surgeons . But their luxury, pampered life knows no nature, only the beauty salons and boutiques of Beverly Hills . Therefore, the first camping trip also falls into the water after she does not know how to behave in the rain. It gets even worse, because not only the group leader of the rudd, Velda Plendor, eaten by envy and ambition, tries to force the group to give up, the other groups and girls also see the Beverly Hills group as a shame for their good ones Call. Because they don't know anything about nature and don't have any badges.
Phyllis doesn't let that sit on her for long and so she shows the girls the jungle of Beverly Hills, consisting of beauty salons, jewelers, sports courses and other events. Little by little, they create more and more badges that prove to the girls that they can do something. She also benefited from this experience when she landed a big surprise at the subsequent biscuit sales competition instead of the planned 2000 with 4732 packs sold. It was the creative efforts of Phyllis, such as the fashion shows and children's concerts, which led to this success and which now impress Freddy. But the insults of Plendor and the rudd don't stop.
So the Beverly Hills girls feel challenged to take part in the 60th Wilderness Jamboree , a competition about survival in nature. Since the rudds sabotage the route, Phyllis and the girls get lost. Only when they flee from a snake and a skunk do they manage to win the competition in six hours and 28 minutes by chance. The next day they fall victim to rudd again, which destroy a bridge over a small ravine. The Phyllis and the girls manage to cross the gorge anyway, saving Plendor, who was left with a broken ankle by her rudd so they can win the competition. Instead, the rudds suffer a disqualification because they arrived at the finish line without their squad leader, making the girls and Phyllis from Beverly Hills the winners.
criticism
In the Chicago Sun-Times , Roger Ebert was surprised that the film “was not satire”, but also “had a heart [...] and a moral message”. He saw the wasted potential, because "Directors like Paul Mazursky and Robert Altman [...] would have used the film as a setting for a satirical festival."
Janet Maslin criticizes the New York Times for saying that the film "is just an idea that is not even new [and] in spirit like the film Sagittarius Benjamin ." Although the film is predictable, it is the "tireless Shelly Long, who initially created a magic with their outrageous behavior “that entertains.
The lexicon of international films said that the film is a "naive social fairy tale with weak satirical tips against the" Schicki-Micki "world, tailored as a vehicle for the comedian Shelley Long, which is sold far below value", acts.
