Betty Thomas (* 27. July 1948 in St. Louis , Missouri ; as Betty Thomas Nienhauser ) is an American actress , film producer and director .

Thomas graduated in 1969 , the Ohio University , then moved to Chicago where she joined the theater troupe The Second City was a member. As a film actress, she made her debut in the 1976 film Tunnelvision , where she starred alongside Chevy Chase and John Candy . For her role in the television series Hill Street Blues , she was in 1985 for the Emmy Award nominated.

In the late 1980s , Thomas took a break from working as an actress and directed several feature films, such as Only You (1992) with Helen Hunt , 28 Days (2000) with Sandra Bullock and I Spy (2002) with Eddie Murphy and Owen Wilson . She also directed individual episodes of a number of television series, such as a. on the Inspector Hooperman series .
