The attractive John Tucker comes from a wealthy family and, as the star of the basketball team, is the crush of all classmates. He makes full use of his popularity by making several admirers look beautiful at the same time and then ditching them without singing. When Kate, who had just moved in, while working as a waitress, realizes that John is showing up one after the other with the model student and young journalist Carrie, the cheerleader boss Heather and the vegan activist Beth, she explains the three of them and they are terribly angry. They want to get back at John and ask Kate, who has opened her eyes, for help.
At first they try to ridicule him, but Tucker manages to turn everything around to his advantage. After all the unsuccessful attempts, John breaks up with all three. That's why the four of them come up with the idea of breaking John's heart. For this, Kate should serve as a decoy. They make Kate a combination of the three of them and give her all the qualities that John found appealing in Heather, Carrie and Beth.
Kate goes from being a wallflower to the most popular girl in school. John also shows interest in Kate, the plan works. Since Kate is changing at the same time, she moves away from her mother and Scott, John's brother, with whom she got along so well in the beginning. It is also he who speaks to Kate about it and makes her aware of what she has become.
At John's birthday party, he learns that it was all played to break his heart, and he is actually disappointed; he's in love with Kate because he thought she was his first serious relationship. There is a great food battle among themselves. Because of what happened, John decides to tell only the truth. A relationship develops between Kate and Scott, and Beth, Carrie, Heather and Kate remain friends.
