Shelley Morrison , actually Rachel Mitrani (born October 26, 1936 in New York City , New York - † December 1, 2019 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actress .

Life

Morrison was born in New York City in 1936 to Jews of Spanish descent . Her father, Maurice, a clothing manufacturer, died in 1946, just months after the family moved to Los Angeles .

After graduating from high school, Morrison began studying acting at Los Angeles City College. At the same time, she managed to draw attention to herself with her first supporting roles in films such as Divorce in American (1967) and Tenderly Snapping the Trap (1968). From 1967 to 1970 she starred in the supporting role of the nun Sister Sixto in the sitcom The Flying Nun on the side of Sally Field . In the following decades, Morrison was often entrusted with the representation of minor characters with a Spanish as well as Central or South American background.

From 1999 to 2006, Morrison played the role of maid Rosario Inez Consuelo Yolanda Salazar on the US sitcom Will & Grace . Initially, the character was only to appear in one episode, but Morrison's portrayal was so popular that she ended up playing this role in 67 other episodes. In 2001, 2002 and 2006 she was nominated for the ALMA Award for her role in Will & Grace . She last appeared as an actress in 2012 with vocal roles in cartoons. Her work includes more than 60 film and television productions. In 2014, Morrison was executive producer on the documentary Weaving the Past: Journey of Discovery , directed by her husband Walter. Despite a request, she declined to participate in the new edition of Will & Grace from 2017 onwards, as she had since retired.

In 1973 the actress married Walter Dominguez, with whom she remained married until her death. The couple, who were close friends with Indians and were particularly fascinated by the Siouxs , adopted six children according to the Indian rite. After successfully battling cancer multiple times, Morrison died of heart failure in December 2019 at the age of 83 .
