action
Successful businessman Harry Hunter had an unhappy marriage. He finds comfort in his lover, Muriel. When his friend David Sloane learns about this, he feels obliged to save Harry's marriage. A discussion between the two friends leads to a gentlemen's agreement: David is supposed to test the loyalty of Harry's lover. If she succumbs to his bachelorette charm, Harry remorsefully wants to return to his wife.
David mistakenly thinks Harry's new employee Carol is his lover. It doesn't take long for Carol to fall in love with David, and so it is not difficult for David to compromise her with Harry, who is unaware of the mix-up. David feels like a benefactor: After twelve years of marriage, Harry is starting his second honeymoon with his wife.
But now the error is cleared up. Carol, who feels betrayed by David, pays him back. With female cunning, she first takes him to prison, then to a mental hospital and forces him to pay for her maintenance. Finally she lures him with the promise to get divorced the next day and then to refrain from all financial demands in front of the altar. But immediately after the wedding, David realizes that he loves Carol. Fate has a happy ending in store for Harry too: he finally separates from his wife and will soon marry his lover.
Reviews
The Protestant film observer summarizes his criticism as follows: “Variations on the rattled topic: How does an American girl fish for a wealthy American bachelor? One of those Hollywood comedies whose recipe for success seems to be that they are so fatally similar. The frivolous, but basically only homely and viscous clothes can only entertain the undemanding. "The lexicon of the international film comes to a similar assessment:" Slightly frivolous and quite simple-minded Hollywood comedy that runs out of air and wit halfway through. "
