Philip William Anderson

Philip William Anderson (born June 23, 1915 - March 27, 1980 in Granada Hills , California ) was an American film editor .

Life

Anderson began his career as an editor in 1939. Until 1946 he was only involved in short films. This was followed by a break of several years in which he was not involved in any production. From 1955 up to and including 1971, Anderson was then mainly active as an editor of cinema films. In total, he was responsible for editing more than 60 productions.

He worked with director Mervyn LeRoy on several films .

Anderson was nominated three times for an Oscar in the category Best Editing . The first time in 1957 together with his colleagues William Hornbeck and Fred Bohanan for the film Giants , the following year a second nomination followed for Sayonara together with Arthur P. Schmidt and the last time in 1962 for The Marriage of Her Parents Announce . For the latter film, he received an Eddie Award from the American Cinema Editors .
