Simon Callow
Simon Callow CBE (born June 13, 1949 in London , Great Britain ) is a British actor and author .
life and work
Callow graduated from Queen's University in Belfast . He had two of his first film roles as an actor in the period films Gandhi (1982) and Amadeus (1984). In the years that followed, Callow appeared in several literary adaptations directed by James Ivory , including as Reverend Beebe in the Oscar-winning Room with a View alongside Maggie Smith , Daniel Day-Lewis and Helena Bonham Carter . He starred opposite Hugh Grant in Four Weddings and a Funeral in 1994 , for which role Callow was nominated for a BAFTA Award . He also appeared on the British television series Chance in a Million . To this day he can be seen, mostly as a high-profile supporting actor, in many British film and television productions.
In 1991 he made his only film as a director with The Ballade of the Sad Café . The film took part in the 1991 Berlinale competition. Callow also writes as a thematic columnist for The Guardian newspaper . He has also been a writer since the 1980s and has written works on Oscar Wilde , Charles Laughton , Orson Welles and Charles Dickens .
In 1999 Callow was awarded the Order of the British Empire . In 2016 Callow married his partner Sebastian Fox on Mykonos .
