Family background
Bonham Carter's mother Elena (nee Propper de Callejón) is a psychotherapist. Her father, Raymond Bonham Carter, was a banker, represented the Bank of England at the International Monetary Fund in Washington, DC in the 1960s , was regarded as a political speaker and a member of the House of Lords .
The father comes from a well-known British political family: he is the son of the English liberal Sir Maurice Bonham Carter and his wife Violet Bonham Carter . Their father - thus Helena Bonham Carter's great-grandfather - was the British Prime Minister Herbert Henry Asquith (in office 1908-1916).
The maternal grandfather, Eduardo Propper de Callejón , was a diplomat of Hispanic Jewish descent. His Jewish wife was Hélène Fould-Springer, daughter of the French banker and baron Eugène Fould-Springer and the Austrian industrialist's daughter Marie Cecile von Springer. A sister of Fould-Springers and Bonham Carter's great-aunt was the French philanthropist Liliane de Rothschild (1916-2003), wife of Élie de Rothschild .
Bonham Carter has two brothers, Edward and Thomas, and is a distant cousin of Jane Bonham Carter , fellow actor Crispin Bonham-Carter, and British writer David Pryce-Jones.
Life

She later continued her education at Westminster School , a private school near the British Parliament . However , she was denied admission to King's College at the University of Cambridge , not because of her performance or test results, but because the school board feared she would drop out in favor of her acting career. After this university decision, she turned completely to acting.
When Bonham Carter was five years old, her mother suffered a nervous breakdown from which she did not recover until three years later. Then she decided to become a psychotherapist. She read Helena's scripts and brought her closer to the psychological background of her characters. Five years after her mother recovered, her father fell ill with an acoustic neuroma , a benign tumor of the vestibulocochlear nerve . As a result of the surgical removal of the tumor, he suffered a stroke at the age of 50 that paralyzed him on one side. Together with her brothers, Bonham Carter helped the mother cope with the resulting change in life. For the film Vom Flying and Other Dreams , she studied the movements and habits of her father.
