The card of my dreams (original title: The Young and Prodigious TS Spivet ) is a French-Canadian co-production by Jean-Pierre Jeunet , based on the novel by Reif Larsen .

Leading actor Kyle Catlett at the Munich Film Festival 2014.

action

TS Spivet lives with his family on a ranch in the US state of Montana . His mother is an insect researcher , his father a fallen cowboy , and his 14-year-old sister dreams of becoming Miss America . His unequal twin brother had died a year earlier in a joint experiment with a rifle in the barn at home . This event is not discussed in the family.

TS is a child prodigy with a passion for cartography and scientific invention . One day he received a call from the Smithsonian Institution telling him that he would be awarded the prestigious Baird Prize for his invention of a perpetual motion machine and that he would be invited to a reception at which he was to give a speech . Without telling anyone, he steals away from home and travels on a freight train as a stowaway to Washington, DC to collect the award. On the way he escapes the security guards a few times with cunning and skill. He also meets a tramp who tells him the story of why deciduous trees lose their leaves in winter. TS will later spread the idea that everyone can find “their own tree”. When he arrived in Washington, he spoke in a touching way about his brother's death and his feelings of guilt. As a result, media hype developed around him and he was presented on TV on a talk show. His parents emerge, to whom the previously existing alienation dissolves.

production

The exterior shots at the ranch were filmed in the Canadian province of Alberta near Calgary. The studio recordings were made in Montreal . The train journey was filmed at various locations in Canada and the USA.

The first performance took place on September 28, 2013 at the Festival Internacional de Cine de Donostia-San Sebastián . In Germany, the film was released on July 10, 2014.
