action

The boy James Henry Trotter lives by the sea with his beloved parents. You dream of a boat trip to New York. But then his parents are suddenly killed by a huge rhinoceros , a metaphor for lightning , storms and thunder , and James has to live with his two terrible aunts, Sponge and Spiky. His life has become unbearable until something unbelievable happens: a mysterious stranger hands him magical crocodile tongues in a bag, ingredients for a mysterious potion that is supposed to save James from his fate. When he wants to go back into the house, he stumbles, and the magical hippies seem to disappear into the ground of the garden without a trace. A little later, a peach grows on a barren peach tree at this point . It will soon be twice as big as the tree itself. While the aunts are displaying the giant peach for money, James crawls into the peach one night and makes friends with giant insects: the reserved Mr. von Heuschreck, the boastful Mr. Millipede, the neurotic and paranoid Herr Würmle, the opaque Mademoiselle Spider and the good-natured Lady Ladybird. Shortly afterwards, the peach breaks loose from the tree, overtakes James' aunts and drifts on the Atlantic Ocean. James ties the peach to a flock of seagulls and they fly through the air. They experience many adventures along the way. In the end, James has to face his aunts and the rhinoceros and overcomes his fears. Once in New York , James and his friends are welcomed into society, and James writes a book about his experiences.

criticism

“An inconsistent, in some passages astonishing, in other parts tiring adaptation of the children's book by Roald Dahl, which is unsuitable for children because of its depressing mood. The animated film sequences sometimes achieve a high artistic quality. "
