Karey James Kirkpatrick (born March 28, 1965 in Louisiana ) is an American film director and screenwriter .

Life

After Karey James Kirkpatrick attended Baton Rouge Magnet High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, he studied at the University of Southern California Film School . During his studies he got a job at Disney , so that he worked on the script of Bernard and Bianca in Kangaroo Land (1990). After graduating in 1988, he performed at the improvisational theater SAK Comedy Lab in Orlando, Florida. He co-wrote several screenplays such as James and the Giant Peach (1996), Darling, Now We're Shrunk (1997) and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005), and made his debut as a film director with Ab durch die Hecke (2006).

In 2007, Kirkpatrick received the Annie Award for directing Ab durch die Hecke . In 2001 he was nominated for the Saturn Award for his screenplay for Chicken Run .
