Quentin Blake

Sir Quentin Saxby Blake (born December 16, 1932 in Sidcup , London ) is a British cartoonist , illustrator and children's book author . He was the first recipient of the Children's Laureate 1999-2001.

Life

Blake made his first drawings for Punch magazine at the age of 16 . From 1953 to 1956 he studied English literature at Downing College of the University of Cambridge and then at the University of London and at the Chelsea School of Art . He obtained a diploma from the Royal College of Art .

Quentin Blake has built a reputation as a fantasy and children's book illustrator and has illustrated over 300 books. In particular, his drawings for the stories by Roald Dahl have become internationally known. Quentin Blake also wrote his own books in addition to his collaboration with Dahl. His drawing technique consists of a fleeting, fast but precise line. The pen drawings he then colored with watercolors . The spontaneity of his drawings makes Quentin Blake's visual signature unmistakable.
