Kate Greenaway Medal

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kate Greenaway Medal is a British award for outstanding illustration in children's and youth books, which has been awarded annually since 1955 together with the Carnegie Medal for the best children's and youth book. The award is named after Kate Greenaway , a popular English illustrator of 19th century children's books. Nominee books must have been published in the United Kingdom and the authors must live there. The jury consists of members of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) .

The winner will receive a gold medal and £ 500 worth of books to donate to a library of their choice. Since 2000 the winner of the Kate Greenaway Medal has also received the Colin Mears Award worth 5000 pounds.

In 2012, Patrick Ness and Jim Kay's A Monster Calls were the first books to win both the Kate Greenaway Medal and the Carnegie Medal.
