Raymond Briggs

Raymond Redvers Briggs (born January 18, 1934 in Wimbledon ) is a British illustrator and author. His works, drawn in a childish style, have been filmed several times.

Life

Raymond Briggs studied painting and typography at Wimbledon and London. In 1957 he graduated from the Slade School of Fine Art in London. After a few years as a painter, he focused on illustrating children's books. His self-written works began to appear in the early 1970s.

The children's book The Snowman was in the short film 1982 The snowman adapted. The comic book When the Wind Blows was filmed in 1986 as When the Wind Blows . In 2015, his children's book Fungus the Bogeyman was adapted as a three-part TV series. In 2016 , an animated film was created from the story of Briggs parents, Ethel & Ernest .

For his work he was u. a. awarded the Kate Greenaway Medal (1966 and 1973), the British Book Award (1993 and 1999) and the Phoenix Award (2014).
