Thadäus Rudolf König (born June 15, 1982 in Heilbad Heiligenstadt ) is a German politician ( CDU ). He has been a member of the Thuringian State Parliament ( MdL ) since January 6, 2019 .

After dropping the baccalaureate at the Johann-Georg-Lingemann High School and serve his community service in the Caritas welfare center in Heiligenstadt studied Thadäus King 2002-2008 Political Science, Public Law and Intercultural Business Communication at the University of Jena to master . He spent a semester abroad in Tartu in Estonia. In 2008 and 2009 he worked as a constituency officer for Prime Minister Dieter Althaus and was then from 2009 to 2011 a member of the doctoral program “Political and Party Development in Europe” of the Hanns Seidel Foundation . After initially assistant to the management of the Kolping-Bildungswerk Thüringen eV, he took over the management of the association in 2013. In 2017 he received his doctorate in philosophy in political science at the Technical University of Chemnitz on the origins, development and structure of the Thuringian party system since 1990.

Thadäus König has been a member of the CDU Eichsfeld since 2002, has been deputy district chairman since 2009, and has been a member of the Eichsfeld district council since 2004. Since 2010 he has been a member of the CDU Thuringia regional executive committee . In addition, König is also involved in the Christian Democratic Workforce (CDA), as chairman of the Thuringia regional association since 2012 and as a member of the federal executive committee since 2013. In the mayoral election on April 15, 2018 in Heilbad Heiligenstadt, König was defeated by the incumbent mayor Thomas Spielmann (citizens' initiative “People for Heiligenstadt”) with 43.4% of the vote.

Christian Carius , President of the Landtag until October 2018, announced in December 2018 that he would resign from his Landtag mandate at the beginning of January 2019. After the former Finance Minister Wolfgang Voss and the former State Secretary in the Ministry of Transport Inge Klaan waived their mandate, König took over the mandate on January 6, 2019 via the state list. In the state parliament, König took over the committee seats from Marion Walsmann in the Committee for Europe, Culture and Media, in the Committee for Migration, Justice and Consumer Protection and in the Committee of Inquiry 6/3. Walsmann left on December 4, 2018 to concentrate on the 2019 European election campaign , and whose successor, Birgit Diezel , was elected as the new President of the State Parliament. In the 137th plenary meeting on January 31, 2019, König was elected as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Thuringian Honorary Office Foundation.

On January 10, 2019, König was elected as a direct candidate of the CDU in the Eichsfeld I constituency for the state election on October 27, 2019, with no opposing candidates. He won the direct mandate with 49% against Björn Höcke , who achieved 21%. This 49% was the best result of all constituencies in Thuringia in the first vote.

Thadäus König is married with one child.
