Lauren Child

Lauren Child , MBE (* 1967 in Marlborough , Wiltshire , England ) is a British picture book artist and author .

Professional background

After studying at Manchester Polytechnic and City and the Guilds of London Art School, she traveled the world. She worked as Damien Hirst's assistant and designed exotic lampshades. Inspired by a publisher, she began to create a picture book and a series of toys. The result was Clarice Bean , That's Me , one of her most famous picture book characters.

In 2002, Lauren Child wrote her first children's author, Utterly Me, Clarice Bean (Eng. Through and Through Clarice Bean , 2004), which has been translated into more than ten languages. The Charlie and Lola book series is one of her most successful picture books . The popular characters also conquered British children's television as an animated film series.

Lauren Childs children's books have received international awards. The English illustrator Quentin Blake presented her works in the Magic Pencil exhibition in the British Library in 2004 . Lauren Child lives in north London .

She is known for her expressive graphic style of illustration, the funny collages and her lively, pointed language. Today, Lauren Child is one of the best-known children's authors and illustrators in England.
