Chelsea College of Art and Design
The Chelsea College of Art and Design is an art school in the London borough of Pimlico , which is part of the University of the Arts London and emerged from the Chelsea School of Art . The main subjects taught at Chelsea College of Art and Design are fine arts and applied arts . Students can obtain a Bachelor's or Master's degree and, since they were granted the right to award doctorates, also the Ph.D acquire.
The Chelsea College of Art and Design grew out of several London schools.
In 1895, the South-Western Polytechnic was founded in Chelsea , where mainly scientific and technical subjects were taught in day and evening courses. In addition, arts, crafts and music were offered. The school was renamed Chelsea Polytechnic in 1922. From the end of the 1920s, the range of artistic subjects was expanded.
In 1908 the union of the School of Art and the Hammersmith School of Art became the Chelsea School of Art .
In 1964 the Chelsea School of Art was merged with the art faculty of the Chelsea Polytechnic and a "new" Chelsea School of Art was founded, which was integrated into the London Institute in 1986 and renamed the Chelsea College of Art and Design in 1989 . In 2004 the London Institute received university status and was renamed University of the Arts London .
