The University of West London (UWL) , formerly: Thames Valley University (TVU), is a British state university with campuses in Ealing , Brentford and Berkshire in west London .
history
The Lady Byron School was founded in 1860 , later renamed the Ealing College of Higher Education, and in the early 1990s joined the Thames Valley College of Higher Education , the London College of Music and the Queen Charlotte's College of Health Care Studies to form polytechnics of West London together. In 1992 it received official university status as Thames Valley University (TVU). Over the years, other educational institutions such as the Northwick Park School of Nursing , the Riverside College of Nursing , the North West Thames Regional Health Authority's AIDS Unit , the Berkshire College of Nursing and Midwifery, and the Reading College and School of Art and Design have been added TVU integrated. After approval by the Privy Council, the name was officially changed to University of West London in April 2011 in order to give the university a more international profile and to draw attention to West London as a location. In May 2011, Laurence Gellar was sworn in as the new Chancellor, who himself was a graduate of the university. At the end of 2011, the Reading and Slough campuses were closed and since then the focus has been on the locations in West London.
