The University of Westminster ( English University of Westminster ) is a university with four campuses in the city of London . A total of around 22,000 students study at the University of Westminster , including around 5,000 from 150 nations (2008).
The university was founded in 1838 as the Royal Polytechnic Institution . In 1881 it was renamed Regent Street Polytechnic and in 1970 Polytechnic of Central London (PCL) . It has had its current name since 1992, as it was granted university status. The university's motto is Educating for Professional Life .
