The Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) is a public English University in Sheffield , South Yorkshire. It is one of two universities in Sheffield , along with the University of Sheffield.

history

In 1992, the City Polytechnic in Sheffield was officially renamed the university and its current name. The facility looks back on a long history that goes back to 1843:

  • 1843 The Sheffield School of Design is founded
  • 1905 The City of Sheffield Training College on Collegiate Crescent enrolls the first 90 students
  • 1969 Sheffield School of Design is the Sheffield College of Technology for Sheffield Polytechnic merged
  • 1976 The two teachers training colleges of the city are in the Sheffield Polytechnic integrated, which now Sheffield City Polytechnic 's
  • 1992 Sheffield City Polytechnic becomes a university and is now called Sheffield Hallam University.

Student life is primarily shaped by the Sheffield Hallam University Students Union. This is based in the building of the former National Center for Popular Music, where Hallam Union events take place regularly.
