Open Art Munich is a gallery weekend for modern and contemporary art that has been taking place every autumn since 1989 . This weekend in September, the 65 members of the Munich Galleries of Contemporary Art Initiative will jointly open the art season after the summer break. The participating galleries are spread over the entire city area - Gärtnerplatzviertel , Altstadt, Lehel , Maximilianstrasse , Schwabing , Maxvorstadt - as well as galleries to the right of the Isar.

Since 2009, the art weekend has been advertised with a fresh poster campaign under annually changing slogans, with which a younger audience is also targeted and inhibitions to visit the galleries are broken down. "Art or art ned" was followed in 2010 by the motto "Protect your walls" with pictures of roaring deer and other protagonists of the "special" taste. In 2011 the Open Art attracts with the more reserved "art full", but instead black and yellow in the colors of Munich.

On the Open Art weekend, the galleries have special opening times - Friday 6 pm–9pm, Saturday and Sunday 11 am–6pm - and film screenings, catalog presentations and much more are offered.

You can find out more about this at the specially set up info point, which has been temporarily located in the ticket office area of the Hypo-Kulturstiftung art gallery since 2009. The guided tours through the galleries, led by art historians, also start from there, every Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. Children's tours will be offered for the first time in 2011, at 11 a.m. in the Thomas Gallery. On Saturday and Sunday at 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. there is also a free taxi shuttle in galleries outside the center. Registrations for this as well as for the guided tours are accepted at the info point.

A catalog is published every year for the Open Art in which the galleries present their exhibitions. This is available in the galleries and at the info point.
