The Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) is a university in the English city of Manchester . It is the third largest university in the United Kingdom in terms of student numbers and the second largest in the city of Manchester after the University of Manchester.

The college was founded as Manchester Polytechnic in 1970 and received university status in 1992. In the 2018/2019 academic year, around 33,050 students studied at the MMU. Their premises are spread over four campuses in Manchester and one in Cheshire .

The MMU has six faculties:

  • Arts and Humanities,
  • Economics and Law (Business and Law),
  • Educational Sciences (Education),
  • Health, Psychology and Social Care,
  • Science and Engineering.
