Childhood and youth
Mick Hucknall was born in Manchester. His family lived in Bredbury for a short time and then later in Denton , a working-class neighborhood to the east of Manchester city center. Mick Hucknall attended the Grammar School in Audenshaw there. At that time, he became a loyal fan of the Manchester United football team .
Mick was raised by his father Reg, a hairdresser by profession , as his mother Maureen left both of them when Mick was three years old. Hucknall first studied art history at the Manchester Metropolitan University . Back then he earned his living as a DJ . At the end of the 1970s, he decided to become a musician.
music
His first band, the new wave / punk-oriented band Frantic Elevators , broke up in 1983 after a few failures, whereupon Hucknall founded Simply Red in 1984. The name of this band (literally simply red ) refers to the artist's hair color , political orientation (he supports the British Labor Party ) and his love for Manchester United football club (club color red).
" Holding Back the Years " was the first single release in November 1985 from the album Picture Book, which became a number one hit.
At the end of 2007, before a world tour, the end of Simply Red was announced and just six months later the musician released a solo album called Hucknall entitled Tribute to Bobby , for which he had re-recorded soul classics by Bobby Bland . At the end of 2010 another world tour with 78 concerts took place under the motto Farewell - The Final Show . Mick Hucknall is involved with the record companies simplyred.com and Blood and Fire .
In the years 2009 to 2012 Hucknall appeared at several festivals as the singer of the re-established Faces .

On June 29, 1996 Simply Red gave a Euro 96 concert at Old Trafford, Manchester United Stadium.
Man Ray
In 1998, together with Johnny Depp , Sean Penn , John Malkovich and restaurateur Thierry Kléméniuk, Hucknall opened Man Ray ( Mandala Ray from 2008 ) in Paris , a bar-restaurant named after the surrealist artist all-rounder Man Ray (1890-1976) , whose owners have published several music albums of the same name and played there. The restaurant is located in the former rooms of the Gaumont , the first cinema on the Champs-Élysées (34 Rue Marbeuf). In the rooms, similar to Buddha bars , there are golden Buddhas , Chinese lanterns and antiques from the Occident . Oriental world music , jazz , electro funk , soul and lounge / house songs are played. A compilation of such songs was published on the compilation albums man ray (Vol. I, II (2002), III (2003)).
