Holding Back the Years is a song by Simply Red from the year 1985 , that of Mick Hucknall was written and Neil Moss.

history

At the age of 17, Mick Hucknall wrote the rough version of the song. In the text, Hucknall processed his past, in which his mother left him and his father when he was three years old, as well as his school days.
“Born an only child in Denton, Manchester, Hucknall was raised by his father, Reg, a barber in Stockport, after his mother, Maureen, left home when he was three. The upheaval caused by his mother's departure was the inspiration for his poignant hit Holding Back The Years. "Hugh Davies.

In 1982 he edited the ballad with Neil Moss and recorded the title with his band Frantic Elevators.

In 1984 Hucknall recorded Back the Years with his band Simply Red Holding for the album Picture Book , which was a great success in 1985/1986. The publication took place on November 4, 1985.

The song can be heard in the episode Lady Love of Miami Vice .

The title published in 1985 on the Elektra Records label was followed by a more successful version by WEA Records the following year .

Music video

The music video was shot in the British seaside town of Whitby . In the plot of the video, Mick Hucknall lived through his childhood and youth, with intermediate scenes also being faded in.
