Gretchen Parlato (born February 11, 1976 in Los Angeles ) is an American jazz singer .

Live and act

Gretchen Parlato was selected in 2001 to study in the college program of the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz by a jury made up of Herbie Hancock , Terence Blanchard and Wayne Shorter ; In 2004 she won first prize at the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocals Competition . In 2005 her debut album was released, which was awarded five stars by the Down Beat ; in the same year she performed with Wayne Shorter at the La Villette Jazz Festival in Paris. In 2009, the album In a Dream followed , on which she interpreted R&B songs that were arranged by Robert Glasper . In 2010 she gave a concert at the Stuttgart Jazz Open . In addition to her own band, she runs the vocal trio Tillery (with Rebecca Martin and Becca Stevens ) , which released an album of the same name in 2016. As a guest vocalist, she has appeared on productions by Esperanza Spalding , Kenny Barron ( The Traveler ), Lionel Loueke and Terence Blanchard ( Flow ).
