WEA Records was a German recording company and existed as a company from 1971 to 2004.

history

1971 was the starting year for the subsidiary of Warner Music , WEA Records, in Germany and France. The German branch was named WEA Records in 1972. The name WEA comes from the abbreviation of the original participating American founding companies W arner, E Lektra and A tlantic. Later Elektra and Atlantic were marketed by the sister label eastwest , but the name WEA remained.

With the restructuring of the company Warner Music Group Germany in 2004, WEA and eastwest were dissolved as independent labels, their structures were taken over by the previous parent company Warner Music Group Germany. From then on all sound carriers were marketed under the name Warner Music Group Germany . WEA and eastwest continue to exist as brands and also appear on the sound carriers, but no longer have any independent structures, neither in the external presentation of the company nor within the Warner Music Group.
