Randy Crawford
Veronica "Randy" Crawford (born February 18, 1952 in Macon , Georgia ) is an American jazz and soul singer . Along with Ella Fitzgerald , Nina Simone , Aretha Franklin and Dee Dee Bridgewater, she is one of the most successful interpreters of this genre.
biography
Crawford was discovered when she stood out in the church choir for her expressive voice. As a teenager, her father took her on tour through the USA and Europe, where she caused a sensation with her first live appearances in clubs. She had her breakthrough with the band The Crusaders and the soundtrack for the film Sharky's Machine , from which the successful song Street Life originates. The highlights of her career include appearing together with Al Jarreau in 1981 at the Montreux Jazz Festival and the duet with the Italian star Zucchero in the Moscow Kremlin in 1990.
With her warm, varied voice, Crawford has won many followers around the world in over three decades. In the 1980s she was even more successful in Europe than in the USA, with a few singles, especially in Great Britain, she reached high chart positions. Her best-known songs include One Day I'll Fly Away , Almaz and You Might Need Somebody . Her later albums were released on smaller record labels . In 2006 she released the album Feeling Good , on which she was accompanied by Joe Sample , founder of the Crusaders. In 2012 she gave several concerts in Germany with the Joe Sample Trio. Randy Crawford is a committed UNICEF ambassador.
