Brand Nubian is an American hip hop group from New Rochelle , New York .

Band history

The group was founded in 1989 by Grand Puba , Sadat X , DJ Alamo and Lord Jamar and signed by Elektra Records . The first album, One For All , was released a year later .

Since Brand Nubian followed the Five Percent Nation in many statements , the first album was often criticized as racist.

Shortly after the album was released, Grand Puba and DJ Alamo left the group due to disputes. The remaining members continue to work with DJ Sincere and in 1993 the second album, In God We Trust , was released with this line-up . This record also received mixed reviews, as some of the lyrics were perceived as anti-gay and also pro-Islamic.

The third album, Everything Is Everything , released in 1994 , was recorded in the original line-up, but the group split up again and the members pursued solo projects. In 1998 there was another association and the album Foundation was released.

Subsequently, Brand Nubian separated again until 2004, the album Fire In The Hole appeared. In 2007, the album Time's Runnin 'Out came out, but largely contained older, previously unreleased material.

Trivia

The title Brand Nubian was used in the PlayStation 2 game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and All For One in the PlayStation 3 game Grand Theft Auto IV
