The Nation of Gods and Earths

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Nation of Gods and Earths , also known as the Five Percent Nation , is an African-American socio - religious movement. This was founded in 1964 by Clarence 13X in Harlem . The Five Percent Nation drew the anger of religious and political leaders who viewed it as a radical offshoot of the Nation of Islam ( already viewed as heretical by Orthodox Islam ) .

history

The group was founded by Clarence 13X , who was also called "Allah", "The Father" or "Father Allah" by the Five Percenters. He was so named because the teaching of the Five Percent Nation traced back to him.

The ideas of the Five Percenter are particularly widespread in hip hop (see also web links at the end of this article). Artists like Rakim , the Wu-Tang-Clan , Brand Nubian , Gang Starr , Nas , AZ and many others spread the views of the Five Percenter, partly encoded in the form of Supreme Mathematics and the Supreme Alphabet .

Five Percenter teach that the people of color individually, but also the entire world population as a whole, can be divided into three groups:

  • 85%, the "poor mass", spiritually deaf, dumb and blind to the truth, to themselves and to the world in which they live.
  • 10% who understand a lot of the truth but use it to their advantage and keep 85% under their control (through religion, politics, entertainment, business and other methods).
  • 5% who are the enlightened divine beings and have regained the knowledge of the truth and who want to liberate 85% through education.

Teaching

The followers of the Nation of Gods and Earths (henceforth called NGE) do not believe in an unseen, unheard "mystery god ", but rather, similar to pantheism, in a god or divine spirit in every black person. Five Percenter sometimes refer to themselves as researchers because they seek knowledge and evidence rather than beliefs and theories.

The teachings of the Five Percent Nation are transmitted through oral transmission. The progress of a five percent center is recorded in terms of its degree of internalization, rendering, understanding and practical application of the "Supreme Mathematics" and "Supreme Alphabets" - 120 tasks (again a revision of the "Supreme Wisdom" Wallace Fard Muhammad and Elijah Muhammad ) by Clarence 13X - measured.

The basic teachings of the NGE are as follows:

  • Black people are the original people of the earth .
  • Black people are the fathers and mothers of civilization .
  • The teaching of Supreme Mathematics is key to understanding humanity's relationship to the universe .
  • Islam is a natural way of life and not a religion.
  • Education should be geared towards making blacks an independent people.
  • Each individual should teach others according to their knowledge.
  • Everyone is God and his corresponding name is Allah . The word Allah stand for A rm, L eg, L eg, A rm, H ead ; So German for arm, leg, leg, arm, head , which consequently describes the person.
  • Children are the connection to the future and must be nourished, respected, loved, protected and taught.
  • The united black family is the fundamental building block of the nation.

Universal flag

The Universal Flag is the group's official identification mark. It consists of a sun, a moon, a star and the number 7. According to their doctrine, it represents the African American family:

  • 7 - The sacred numeral of many ancient and modern traditions. She symbolizes Allah (as black people). In Supreme Mathematics, the number stands for God, as does the seventh letter "G" in the Supreme Alphabet.
  • Sun - Another symbol of the masculine, truth and light. The points around the sun are a symbol of the expanding universe.
  • Moon - The crescent moon symbolizes wisdom and the black woman.
  • Star - The five-ray star symbolizes knowledge and children, as the beginning of a new sun.

Comparison with established religion

Although the NGE uses many terms and expressions that are common to traditional Muslims, and some of them refer to themselves as Muslims, Five Percenters and Muslims have little in common. Five Percenter do not eat pork, but they also do not follow the traditional Islamic teachings as described in the Koran or Muhammad's Sunna (dress code, prayer rituals, alcohol ban and others). This is due to the fact that Five Percenter do not see themselves as a religious movement and that God lives in them. In Orthodox Islam, this is viewed as a heretical and blasphemous concept because it violates basic beliefs and the association of people or objects with God is a mortal sin. In addition, there is the rejection of the exclusivity of a certain (in this case black) people, since Islam comes from the Arab world, but regards itself as a multi-ethnic religion.
