Sadat X (real name Derek Murphy , born December 29, 1968 in New Rochelle , New York ) is an American rapper and music producer . He is a member of the Brand Nubian group and is considered a representative of East Coast hip hop and jazz rap . He is also known for spreading the message of the Five Percent Nation through his writing .

Career

Third two years after Brand Nubian album Everything Is Everything published Sadat X his solo debut Wild Cowboys , among others produced by Diamond D . In the same year the second album No Better Way followed , with contributions from Da Beatminerz and Pete Rock . After that, however, he initially focused again on working with Brand Nubian before recording an EP called The State of New York Vs. Derek Murphy published.

However, occupied by his activities as an elementary school teacher and basketball coach, it was five more years before his album Experience & Education was released. Black October followed in 2006 , which he recorded after he was arrested for illegal gun possession and the trial against him was being prepared. He was eventually convicted and served a prison term on Rikers Island . He then released three albums within three years on three different labels from 2008 onwards . The last of these was the continuation of his solo debut in 2010 with Wild Cowboys II .

He also remained active in the following years and further works were brought onto the market with Love Hell or Right from 2012, Never Left from 2015, Agua from 2016 and The Sum of a Man from 2017.
