Buddha bar
The Buddha-Bar is an international restaurant chain, the interior of which is characterized by striking Buddha statues . The Buddha-Bar achieved a high level of popularity for the lounge music played in the restaurant . A series of music CDs ( compilations ) in this music style has been published by George V Records since 1999, also under the name Buddha-Bar and marketed through the Buddha-Bar Restaurants. The basic idea behind the release of the CDs was to make the music and the atmosphere of the Buddha-Bar accessible to everyone.
The first Buddha-Bar was founded in 1996 by Raymond Visan in Paris . Further restaurants were created based on the franchise principle. There are now numerous offshoots worldwide. Smaller versions of the Buddha bar are marketed under the name Little Buddha .
There are now a large number of restaurants and bars that imitate the concept with Buddha statues and chillout music and sometimes also call themselves Buddha Bar . However, they are not official offshoots of the Paris Buddha-Bar.
The concept of the official Buddha bar is also applied to hotels. In 2009 the first licensed Buddha-Bar Hotel opened in Prague , the second in 2012 in Budapest and the last one in 2013 in Paris . Further hotel openings are planned.
In March 2009 a group of Buddhists protested in Jakarta against the Buddha Bar there over the use of religious symbols for entertainment purposes.
