Helena Christensen
Helena Christensen (born December 25, 1968 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish photo model .
Life
Christensen is the daughter of a Peruvian mother and a Danish father. She spent her childhood in her home country Denmark. She was interested in music and photography.
In 1986 she flew to Paris to work as a model for the fashion magazine Elle . In the same year she was elected Miss Denmark and went to Denmark in the Miss Universe election, but could not qualify for the top places. The photos in the fashion magazine Vogue further increased her popularity. She was discovered as a photo model by the photographer Friedemann Hauss .
Christensen was one of the best-known top models of the 1980s and 1990s. The fashion designer Gianni Versace once said that she had the most beautiful body in the world. Karl Lagerfeld found that no model had longer and more beautiful legs than Helena Christensen.
Her breakthrough came in 1990 with the photos in the Victoria's Secret lingerie catalog . Since then, until 1999, she has been photographed for the catalog alongside top models such as Tyra Banks , Heidi Klum and Daniela Peštová . Her close friends include models like Claudia Schiffer , Carla Bruni , Karen Mulder and Eva Herzigova .
Helena Christensen was briefly in a relationship with the photographer Peter Makebisch . Makebisch wears a tattoo on his arm as a souvenir of her . From 1991 to 1994 she lived with the singer of the INXS band Michael Hutchence . The relationship with the actor Norman Reedus lasted from 1999 to 2003. On October 13, 1999, their son was born. Since spring 2008 Christensen has been in a relationship with the lead singer of the indie rock band Interpol , Paul Banks , who is 10 years his junior .
In addition to her career as a photo model, she also worked on television and film projects . She made her actress debut in the 1992 television movie Inferno, starring alongside Tyra Banks, Kate Moss , Amber Smith and other models.
In 1991 she also starred in the music video Wicked Game by rock singer Chris Isaak . This video clip, which was shot by Herb Ritts , is considered the sexiest video of all time thanks to Helena Christensen. In 1994 Christensen starred in Robert Altman's film Prêt-à-Porter . In 2005 the film drama Allegro was released , in which she took the lead role.
After her retirement from the world of models, Helena Christensen founded the fashion magazine Nylon . She is also involved in the fight against breast cancer . She now also works as a photographer and designer for her fashion company Christensen & Sigersen and runs a fashion and antiques shop in New York.
