INXS ([ ɪnekˈsɛs ], derived from in excess ) were an Australian rock band . It was founded in 1977 by the Farriss Brothers as The Farriss Brothers . According to the sources, they have sold more than 24.4 million records in their career. INXS 'most successful release is the album Kick, with around 9.2 million units sold.
description
In the 1980s and early 1990s, the band was one of the defining forces of the Australian rock scene and achieved international success. A career highlight was the concert on July 13, 1991 in London's Wembley Stadium in front of 72,000 spectators.
Kick (1987)
With the sixth studio album Kick , the band achieved their international breakthrough. Around 9.2 million copies of the album were sold. The video for the single Need You Tonight ,shot by Richard Lowenstern, dominated the MTV Video Music Awards in 1988 and won five awards.
X (1990)
The seventh studio album X was released on September 25, 1990. The single Suicide Blonde was nominated for a Grammy in 1991, but lost to Janie's got a gun from Aerosmith . Five songs on the album were released as singles.
Welcome to Wherever You Are (1992)
The eighth studio album was called Welcome to Wherever You Are and was produced by Mark Opitz.
Elegantly Wasted (1997) In
1997, INXS released their tenth studio album.
On June 4, 2019, the music magazine Rolling Stone reported on the last interview with Michael Hutchence six months before his death. In this, Hutchence also spoke about INXS ' comeback attempt with the album Elegantly Wasted. When asked if Hutchence would describe INXS 'music as "modern rock" , he said:
“ Very good question, to be honest I would like to know that too. I think we sound at least as contemporary as most other rock bands, a lot more modern than the grunge group and a lot more modern than Oasis . We wouldn't damn well want to record something that already exists in a better form. "
This LP was supposed to be “INXS-like” again and sound like a bunch of white boys playing funky rock'n'roll .
INXS after the death of Michael Hutchence
After the death of the charismatic lead singer Michael Hutchence on November 22, 1997, the band appeared with changing front men such as Jimmy Barnes , Terence Trent D'Arby and Jon Stevens. With the latter, some recordings were also released, but they could not build on the earlier successes. In 2001 INXS was honored with the induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame .
In October 2005, 31-year-old Canadian ex- Elvis imitator JD Fortune became INXS 'new lead singer. He prevailed against 14 other candidates on the reality show Rock Star: INXS . A single called Pretty Vegas and the album Switch were released.
At a concert in Perth, where INXS supported Matchbox Twenty , drummer Jon Farriss announced the breakup in November 2012 after 35 years as a band.
