The Rogue Traders are an Australian dance band.

history

The two founding members James Ash and Steve Davis met in London in 1989 and worked together on many projects, including the Union State dance project . In 2002 the duo called Rogue Trader after the film of the same name (German title Das Schnell Geld - Die Nick-Leeson-Story ).

From single to single, they gradually increased their popularity in Australia and they achieved their breakthrough with their third single, One Of My Kind . This cover version of the INXS classic Need You Tonight reached the Australian Top 10 and was named the best dance track of the year.

At the end of 2004, Natalie Bassingthwaighte joined the band as a singer. Natalie B was successful from 2003 as an actress in the Australian permanent soap Neighbors (Neighbors) . In addition to keyboardist James Ash, guitarist Timothy Henwood and drummer Cameron McGlinchey also belonged to the band, while Steve Davis mostly only worked in the background.

The second album Here Come The Drums was released in 2005 with a new line-up . With the first three single releases, the Rogue Traders reached the Australian Top 10, the album was awarded three times platinum .

Encouraged by the success, the international career of the band was planned for 2006, for which Natalie B even stopped her TV career. The first single was their most successful number to date, Voodoo Child , which reached number 4 and platinum status in Australia. In England, where Natalie B was already known through the series Neighbors , the video and single got off to a very good start weeks before the official release and in the second week of the chart the song reached number 3 in the UK charts. In November 2006, Voodoo Child and the album Here Come The Drums were also released in Germany, but did not reach any chart positions due to the lack of promotion and lack of media support.

On June 24, 2008, the Rogue Traders announced that Natalie Bassingthwaighte would be leaving the band with immediate effect. Since she shot a new season of the ten series "So you think you can dance" and recorded her own album in the autumn of the same year, there was not enough time to stay with the band. The departure of drummer Cameron McGlinchey, who is with Bassingthwaighte, was also announced.

With a new front woman (Melinda 'Mindi' Jackson) and a different line-up, a new, meanwhile fourth album was produced in 2009.
