Neighbors (original title: Neighbors ) is an Australian soap opera that has been filmed since 1985. The television series is particularly successful and popular in her native Australia and in Great Britain . In Germany, Neighbors was broadcast on Sat.1 from 1989 to 1995 and ran there for 844 episodes. On June 30, 2006, the 5,000th episode aired in Australia.
Some of the actors in the soap opera also became internationally famous beyond the series. Examples include Kylie Minogue , Jason Donovan , Guy Pearce , Craig McLachlan , Alan Dale , Russell Crowe , Natalie Imbruglia , Radha Mitchell , Jesse Spencer , Holly Valance , Margot Robbie , Delta Goodrem , Liam Hemsworth and Peter André .
The action of the series takes place in the Ramsay Street in Erinsborough (a pseudo anagram of words Our Neighbors ), a fictional suburb of Melbourne . The outdoor shooting takes place in the Pinoak Court. This street is in the Melbourne suburb of Vermont South.
In Australia, Neighbors was initially a flop and was discontinued by the station Seven Network after 170 episodes. The station Network Ten bought the rights and 1986 led the series continued with a younger cast as Jason Donovan, Kylie Minogue and Guy Pearce. The series opened up to a wide audience among teenagers and became a hit in Australia, and later also in the UK. After Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan made international careers as pop singers, the series was sold in over 50 countries.
In addition to Australia, Neighbors are very popular in the UK. The TV station BBC 1 first broadcast the series in 1986. In 2008 BBC 1 lost the rights to broadcast the Australian series to the private broadcaster Five, which was then part of the RTL Group .
