Jason Donovan
Jason Donovan (born June 1, 1968 in Malvern , Melbourne ) is an Australian singer and actor .
biography
As Kylie Minogue and Natalie Imbruglia , he played in the late 1980s in the Australian soap opera Neighbors (Neighbors) and obtained by the attention of the successful producer trio Stock Aitken Waterman , which hired him and into a successful pop star made. Together with Minogue he recorded the world hit Especially for You . The subsequent Stock Aitken Waterman productions were all successful and achieved top positions , especially in Great Britain and Australia: Between mid-1988 and summer 1991 Donovan released 14 hit singles. Especially for You , Sealed with a Kiss and Too Many Broken Hearts from 1989 were particularly successful in Germany.
In the late 1980s Donovan was the most successful singer in Europe , landed several number one hits in the UK charts and five number one hits in a row in Ireland .
After leaving Stock Aitken Waterman, Donovan played the lead role in the musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and topped the UK charts for the last time with the resulting song Any Dream Will Do. In 1998 he played the role of Frank'n'Furter on the Rocky Horror Show , first in Perth and then in London . Musically it became quieter around him from 1993 onwards. Drug problems and a lawsuit against The Face magazine for alleged homosexuality made the headlines.
A film role in the British thriller Sorted followed. At the same time, the relationship with Angela Malloch, with whom he was already dating during the Rocky Horror Show , became public . She was expecting their baby together. Their daughter Jemma was born in 2000, and their son Zac a year later. The couple married in 2008 and their daughter Molly was born in 2011.
Other film roles followed, including a. in Ned and Loot . Back in Melbourne , he also played in the Australian ABC medical series MDA ("Medical Defense Australia"). In 2004 and 2005 Jason returned to the London Palladium after years . He played the lead role of Caractacus Pott in the family musical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang . In 2006 Jason toured the UK with the musical Sweeney Todd before appearing in Melbourne in the summer drama Festen ("Das Fest") by the English playwright David Eldridge . At the end of the year, he was one of the contestants on the British television show I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! , in which he took third place.
In May 2007 Donovan was successfully touring the UK with his All the Hits and More tour . The following month he released his new single Share My World . During the summer he was in Cornwall's Echo Beach series , which was shown on ITV in the spring of 2008 on British television . On October 1, 2007, he published his autobiography , in which he openly reported about his childhood love for Kylie Minogue, as well as his 1992 trial of Face magazine and his drug excesses in the 1990s.
Donovan appeared in the role of Daniel Marrack in the British soap opera Echo Beach on ITV in the spring of 2008 . Since April 6, 2008, he has hosted the weekly Sunday Nights radio program , which is broadcast on many local frequencies in Great Britain. Since March 2009 he has played the role of Tick in the musical Priscilla Queen of the Desert at the Palace Theater in London. The musical is based on the Australian film Priscilla - Queen of the Desert from 1994.
In 2011, Donovan toured England with Jeff Wayne and other cast members for the live show Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of the War of the Worlds - Alive on Stage , where he played the role of the artilleryman. 2012-2013 he took part again in the musical performance in England and Europe, but this time played the role of Parson Nathaniel. In September 2018, Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan were back on stage together in London.
Donovan has been married to Angela Malloch since 2008 and has three children.
