Sealed with a kiss

Sealed with a Kiss is a pop song written by Peter Udell and Gary Geld . The piece was first recorded in 1960 by The Four Voices and released as a single . This first version was not yet a particular success.

Two years later, singer Brian Hyland , who had previously used material from Udell and Geld, re-released Sealed with a Kiss as a single. It came third on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Top 40 . As early as 1962 there were a number of cover versions in other languages, including a German by Hyland himself. The text of the German version is not a translation, but has a completely different content than the English original.

A cover version of Gary Lewis & the Playboys reached number 19 in the US charts in 1968, and a version by Bobby Vinton also came to number 19 in 1972. In 1975, Hyland ranked sixth with a re-release in the UK .

In 1989, actor Jason Donovan , known from the soap opera Neighbors , managed to stay at the top of the UK singles charts for two weeks with his interpretation of Sealed with a Kiss and also to reach number 1 in Belgium . He used the title for his debut album Ten Good Reasons that same year . In 2008 he recorded the song again for his album Let It Be Me .

The singer laments the separation from his loved one and imagines the impending dreariness that will last for a summer and not end until September. He promises to convey his love to her daily in the form of a letter, sealed with a kiss.

In 2006 a scrapbook with 15 versions came out, which is distributed by download . In 2009, Sealed With A Kiss - The Album Of One Song was released with 22 versions of the song, nine of which are already included in the previous collection.
