Paper Lace was a British pop band from the 1970s.

Band history

The group was founded in Nottingham in 1969 . Her first success in England was 1974 with the song Billy Don't Be a Hero , which reached the top position on March 16, 1974 and held it for three weeks. With that, the Bus Stop label also had its biggest hit. The song was written by the British songwriter duo Mitch Murray and Peter Callander . A cover version of the band Bo Donaldson & the Heywoods topped the US charts in June of that year . In 1974 Murray and Callander wrote another hit for Paper Lace with The Night Chicago Died , which rose to number one in the US and number three in the UK. A third Murray / Callander title, The Black-Eyed Boys , was another Top 20 hit a little later.

In 1978, the group achieved another noteworthy success: They sang the anthem We've Got the Whole World in Our Hands together with the Nottingham Forest football club and reached number 24 in the UK charts.

Shortly thereafter, the band renamed itself from "Paper Lace" to "Lace" and was forgotten.

Trivia
