Nancy Holloway

Nancy Holloway (born Nancy Brown on December 11, 1932 in Cleveland , Ohio , † August 28, 2019 in Paris ) was an American jazz and soul singer who was successful in France .

life and career

She grew up as Nancy Brown in Cleveland and married after graduating from high school . From the short marriage she kept the surname Holloway. She then moved to New York City , where she worked as a dancer, and went to Europe in 1954. In 1959 she began her singing career at the Moulin Rouge in Paris .

In 1961 she made her first appearance on French television and was successful in the following years with various titles in French, including T'en va pas comme ça , the French version of the Burt Bacharach song Don't Make Me Over . She has performed with artists such as Sammy Davis Jr. , Quincy Jones and Dizzy Gillespie . From 1961 she ran her own nightclub and starred in a number of French films.

After a longer concert break, she performed again from the 1980s. Her last tour was from 2006 to 2008 with Richard Anthony , Demis Roussos and Frank Alamo . She died in Paris in August 2019 at the age of 86.
