Bath salts

Granular bath salt

Bath salt is a granular bath additive or pressed into tablets , which essentially consists of inorganic salts such as sodium chloride , sodium phosphate or borax and, in the case of bath tablets, additional binding agents such as starch or talc . Fizzy bath salts contain, for example, sodium hydrogen carbonate and citric or tartaric acid . It can also contain small amounts of surfactants , fragrances and dyes .

effect

Bath salts change the osmotic pressure of the water. As a result, less salts are withdrawn from the body through the skin and thus the formation of wrinkles in the skin is reduced.

Some bath salts (for example those containing phosphate) have a cleansing effect, make the skin soft and act like a peeling .

Some bath salts make the water softer .

Salts increase the relative density and thus the buoyancy of bodies immersed in water. This makes the body feel lighter in the water.

Bath salts are often used to simulate the composition of natural mineral baths or hot springs .
