Wicked Game is a song by American rock musician Chris Isaak , which was released on his album Heart Shaped World in 1989 and as a single in November 1990.

The song achieved widespread popularity after being used as an instrumental version in the David Lynch film Wild at Heart a year later . The single rose to number six on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, number ten in the British charts and number ninth in the German single charts .

composition

Wicked Game is written in the Dorian key . The recordings were made over several years in different versions and arrangements. The bass and drum tracks were inserted and looped in the version that was finally released as samples from previous recordings . The guitar solo was played by James Calvin Wilsey (1957-2018) of Chris Isaak's band.

Video

The first video for the song was shot by David Lynch. This clip shows recordings by Chris Isaak and his band with scenes from Lynch's film Wild at Heart .

With the increasing popularity of the song and to promote the published best-of compilation Wicked Games , a second video was shot in early 1991 under the direction of Herb Ritts . In this version, which is much better known today, Chris Isaak lolls on the beach with the model Helena Christensen . The video, which is kept in black and white and shows a scene of rolling waves, moving clouds and pristine sandy beach, has won several awards. It won the MTV Video Music Awards in 1991 in the categories Best Cinematography , Best Video From a Film and Best Male Video , and was nominated in four other categories ( Best Video of the Year , Best Direction , Best Editing and Viewer's Choice ). On the list of the top 100 music videos of Rolling Stone magazine, in 1993 reached the video number 73 on the list of VH1 in 2001 it was ranked 13. The music video for the song Screwing You on the Beach at Night of Bloodhound Gang is a parody Ritts' video.
