James Vincent McMorrow (born January 14, 1983 in Dublin ) is an Irish folk pop musician .

biography

James Vincent McMorrow originally started out as a drummer in heavy metal bands when he was 15 . It was only at the age of 19 that he began to write his own music with the guitar in the style of the singer-songwriters of the 1970s. His trademark is his high voice. As a folk singer, he performed in the pubs of his hometown and also recorded his own pieces. He released his first EP The Sparrow and the Wolf in 2008. He finished his debut album in March 2010 after a six-month seclusion on the Irish coast. Early in the Morning only reached number 22 on the Irish album charts, but stayed in the Top 75 for 81 weeks and eventually went platinum . It was also nominated for the Choice Music Prize .

After the success at home, interest also grew abroad. This was followed by appearances at the Royal Festival Hall and on British television with Jools Holland and a year after its first release, the album was also released abroad. It hit the charts in several European countries and reached number 7 on the folk charts in the US. He had another success in late 2011 with a recording of Steve Winwood's song Higher Love , which became a hit single when it was used in television advertising.

In 2012 McMorrow toured the USA with Bell X1, among others . He also won a European Border Breakers Award . The following year he went to Texas to record his second album, Post Tropical . It was released in January 2014 and reached number 2 in Ireland. The album was also successful abroad and in the USA it made it to number 76 on the official album charts .

A deluxe version followed ten months later, with three additional remixes, two live recordings and three new tracks - including Look Out , for which a video by Emma J Doyle was published.

In January 2015, McMorrow decided to publish the album Live at the Ace Hotel , a recording of his last tour in Los Angeles, as a free download on his website.
